SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION (SMP)
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical cosmetic tattooing procedure designed to simulate the appearance of fuller or denser hair. Instead of traditional tattoo ink, SMP uses specialised organic pigments implanted just below the surface of the scalp in a pattern that mimics hair follicles.
SMP may suit individuals who are not ready for hair transplant surgery or are not considered candidates due to limited donor supply. It can also be used alongside surgical methods, such as FUT, to reduce the visibility of donor area scars.
This technique is considered low maintenance and blends easily into most daily routines, including physical activity or swimming. However, individual experiences vary based on scalp condition, pigment retention, and design goals.
As with all cosmetic tattooing procedures, minor side effects such as redness or irritation can occur. Full aftercare instructions are provided, and a consultation is required to determine suitability and expected outcomes. SMP can also be used alongside FUT to help disguise a linear scar, or in repair cases to minimise the appearance of FUE scarring from overharvesting.
HOW IT WORKS – SMP
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
AM I SUITABLE FOR SMP?
SMP may be suitable for individuals looking to improve the appearance of thinning hair or camouflage scars. It can also be used alongside a hair transplant to enhance overall coverage. We use organic pigments formulated for a wide range of skin types, but suitability will be assessed during your consultation.
HOW OFTEN DO I NEED SMP?
Most clients require 2 to 3 sessions to complete the initial procedure, spaced approximately 2 to 4 weeks apart. The frequency of future touch-up treatments depends on your individual skin characteristics and whether permanent or semi-permanent pigments are used.
HOW MUCH DOES SMP COST?
SMP fees depend on the extent of coverage required and the number of sessions needed. As a guide, pricing typically begins at $1,500. A personalised quote is provided after your consultation.
