Hair Transplant Costs in ADELAIDE (2026 Guide)
At Medihair, the cost of your hair transplant will be influenced by several clinical factors, including the extent of your hair loss, the appearance you’re aiming to achieve, and the quality and supply of your donor hair.
Costs can vary because every patient has a unique combination of goals, scalp characteristics, and graft requirements. However, most treatment plans range from $8,000 to $20,000, depending on these variables.
WHAT AFFECTS THE NUMBER OF GRAFTS?
During your consultation, we assess:
- The area of coverage (e.g. frontal hairline, crown, temples)
- Hair-to-skin contrast (how well the hairs stand out against your skin tone)
- Your density expectation (thick, medium, or light coverage)
- Your aesthetic goals and expectations
- The calibre and density of your donor hair
- The number of hairs per follicular unit (some grafts naturally contain 2–4 hairs)
- The technique and experience of your doctor, which affects how much visual impact can be achieved with fewer grafts
An experienced doctor may be able to achieve your desired result with fewer grafts by applying advanced design and density strategies. This is known as the supply and demand model, which balances your available donor supply with your visual goals to achieve a natural-looking result.
THE DOCTOR DIFFERENCE
At Medihair, the doctors are highly experienced medical practitioners who have spent many years refining advanced hair transplant techniques and contributing to global standards in hair transplant medicine. They hold internationally recognised leadership roles, have lectured all over the world through organisations such as the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) and are certified through the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS), of which there are 3 in Australia.
The Doctors are lecturers and award-winning, including the Manfred Lucas Award and the Golden Follicle Award, and are recognised by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS).
All procedures are performed by qualified doctors registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), with clinical involvement across all stages of the procedure, including planning, donor management and recipient site design.
This approach reflects a higher level of surgical oversight than technician- or nurse-led models, or doctor-led models that may extract the donor hair and have technicians complete the surgery.
The Doctors are involved from start to finish.
Advanced diagnostic technology, including AI, is used to assess donor strength, hair characteristics, and future hair loss patterns. This supports careful design that prioritises a natural appearance while preserving donor hair for future needs if required. Each patient is guided through a structured process focused on suitability, planning and realistic expectations, with an emphasis on delivering a high standard of care throughout the entire experience.
Risks & Recovery
Hair transplantation is a medical procedure and, like all procedures, involves risks, limitations, and a recovery period. Outcomes and recovery experiences vary between individuals and depend on factors such as hair characteristics, donor supply, overall health, and adherence to post-procedure instructions.
ARE YOU A CANDIDATE FOR FUE?
During your consultation, we will review:
- Hair loss pattern and progression
- Family history and genetic factors
- Health and medication history
- Donor area density and quality
- Your goals and expectations
We will provide an honest opinion on whether FUE is likely to meet your needs and discuss all appropriate options.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT CAUSES MALE PATTERN BALDNESS?
Androgenetic alopecia (commonly known as male pattern baldness) is the most common cause of hair loss in men. It is influenced by genetics and the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which causes progressive miniaturisation of hair follicles to baldness.
WHAT IS THE EXPECTED RECOVERY LIKE AFTER FUE?
The scalp (both the donor and recipient areas) typically experiences mild redness or swelling immediately post-procedure, which subsides within a few days as healing begins
Tiny scabs will form around each transplanted follicle. These crusts usually harden and fall off naturally within about 7–10 days after the procedure. By around day 10, the transplanted area generally has a normal appearance again as most scabs will have shed, and any residual redness is minimal.
At Medihair, the doctor provides you with detailed post-operative care instructions to ensure proper healing, and our team remains available for support during your recovery.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FUE AND FUT?
The main difference between FUE and FUT is the way follicular units are removed from the donor area.
Both techniques will deliver the thickest and most natural outcomes however they each carry their own advantages and disadvantages.
HOW LONG DO HAIR TRANSPLANTS LAST?
Hair transplant follicles typically grow in their new location long-term; however, outcomes may be influenced by factors such as age, ongoing hair loss, medical conditions, and lifestyle. A thorough consultation and medical assessment will help identify any risks and support a long-term approach focused on preserving your hair and maintaining overall results.
CAN FUE BE USED FOR BEARD RESTORATION?
FUE is commonly used to enhance beard density or fill patchy beard patterns. In this procedure, hair follicles (typically taken from the scalp) are extracted individually using the FUE technique and then implanted into specific areas of the beard. This approach may help create a more even or defined appearance, depending on your goals and donor hair availability.
HOW MUCH DOES FUE COST?
Costs depend on the number of grafts required and individual clinical needs. As a guide, hair transplant procedures at Medihair generally range between $8,000 and $20,000. A personalised quote is provided after assessment.
