3. It is virtually scar less because it does not involve making an incision in the donor area. It will only leave you minute, white pitted scars that are practically invisible to the naked eye instead of a very obvious linear scar.

4. Dr. Alam is known for his aesthetic eye for detail and will carefully plot the extraction and transplantation of the harvested individual follicles to ensure the most natural-looking results.

6. If you have had an FUT hair transplant done before, FUE technique is the ideal treatment because it does not affect scalp tension and laxity.

7. The best thing about FUE is that Dr. Alam can cherry pick the grafts needed for optimal results selecting only the required finer hair for the hairline and thicker grafts for added density. This allows Dr. Alam to customize the hair design according to the natural hair growth.

8. Because it is less invasive, there is less chance of scalp nerve damage and ensures faster recovery.

9. Dr. Alam is assisted with the best medical team that helps to make sure that the integrity of your hair grafts are preserved.

10. Donor hair grafts are not limited to the head. The FUE technique can use body hair, especially for patients with low donor hair in the scalp.

The Problem

Hair loss is categorized in many different types. However, the most common type is androgenetic alopecia or more popularly known as male pattern baldness.

In a collective data, there are approximately 35 million men in the US alone who suffer the generally male associated condition. And about 40% of men begin to show noticeable signs of hair loss before they hit the age of 35. Male pattern baldness is caused because of the male hormone dihydrotestosterone or DHT.

This shortens the growth phase of the hair and results to a process called follicle miniaturization, where the hair follicles progressively shrink and eventually disappear. The hair in the front, top and crown area are the most susceptible to the effects of DHT, and this is evident in the “pattern” that forms within these areas for men who suffer from hair loss. Hair thinning in these areas can lead to total baldness, leaving only hair on the back and sides of the scalp.

If you are one of those who suffer from male pattern baldness, you will know that it can have an adverse impact in your professional, social and personal relationships. It can certainly dampen your confidence and self-worth.

In fact, 47% of those who are affected with hair loss would spend their life savings on hair growth treatments. And according to the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, there has been an estimated 3,820 surgical hair restoration procedures performed in Australia in 2012. This shows how men are eager in bring back regrowth to their hair. And more and more patients are seeing the advantage of getting a hair transplant done using the FUE technique than the traditional strip harvesting method.

FUE Hair Transplant Procedure

The main difference between FUT and FUE is the manner in which the follicular units are harvested, the appearance of the donor area and the quantity of grafts that can be extracted from each of the technique.

The preparation, creation and placement of the grafts in the recipient site are essentially the same. Dr. Alam carefully extracts individual hair grafts from the identified donor sites. FUE uses an instrument to make small, circular incisions in the skin around a follicular unit to separate it from the surrounding tissue, approximately 1-mm in size. This is repeated until the right number of hair grafts are collected for the planned hair restoration in the recipient or bald area.

The harvested hair follicles are then segregated according to graft counts and preserved by placing a solution. After harvesting the required hair grafts piece by piece, the surgeon will then prepare the recipient site by making small incisions using a fine needle instrument.

The grafts are then strategically transplanted into the recipient site taking into consideration the natural density, growth pattern and angle of the existing hair.

And because FUE uses precision clear instruments, the hair follicles maintain a uniformed hair shaft diameter and results to a smooth transition of new and old hair. Because of the meticulous process involved in the procedure, FUE takes a longer time to finish and several short sessions may be required.

FUE Hair Transplant Results

The FUE technique can create very natural results. This is because the technique allows the surgeon to pick the right hair graft count that is best suited for the identified recipient area. And with Dr. Alam’s eye for aesthetic detail, he is able to create a soft hairline and thick crown area hair results.

Apart from the natural-looking results, patients are able to sport the shortest of hairstyle without any worry of visible linear scar. This provides versatility in maintaining a desired haircut or style after the procedure.

Downtime

Compared to the FUT technique, downtime and healing is drastically minimized in FUE. The tiny puncture scars will close up after 2 or 3 days and full healing can happen in about 7 to 10 days post-op. Red scars and scabs also will clear away during this time. In fact, FUE patients can immediately go back to their daily routine after the treatment.

However, while there are no incisions involved, you will still be advised to refrain from performing strenuous activities within the first month. Read more on Hair Transplant Recovery Time

Questions on FUE Hair Transplant

1. How does it work?

Follicular Unit Extraction or FUE is the latest technology in the field of hair transplant surgery. It is frequently marketed as the scar less alternative to the typical Strip Harvesting method. The main difference between FUE and strip harvesting is the manner in which the donor grafts are extracted.

This technique involves individually harvesting follicular units directly from the donor site before being transplanted on to the recipient area instead of being dissected separately from a donor tissue in a strip harvesting.

2. Am I suitable for a FUE Hair Transplant?

Your suitability for the procedure depends on the extent of your hair loss, supply of donor hairs and your realistic expectations. Generally, FUE is an excellent treatment of choice for those who want to maintain a short hair after the procedure or those who have undergone prior FUT procedure and suffer from tight scalp.

3. How much does an FUE hair transplant procedure cost?

A drawback of FUE is that it can be a lot more expensive compared with FUT. The price ranges from $8 to $10 per graft as compared to the $6 to $8 per graft in FUT.

4. Are there any payment plans or financing available for MediHair hair restoration?

At Medihair Hair Transplant Clinics, we make hair transplant procedure affordably possible through our patient payment plan with MAC Credit. They have been in the forefront in providing access to alternative payment solutions for cosmetic procedures, which include hair restoration.

5. How soon will I see the results?

Typically, you will be able to see new hair regrowth 6 or 12 months after the procedure day. However, you should take note that 2 or 3 weeks post-op, your transplanted hair will undergo a natural phase called hair loss shock, where the donor hair will fall off to give way for new hair regrowth.

6. How long will the results last?

Surgical hair transplant is completely permanent. But, this will not prevent future hair loss from happening in the untreated. Dr. Alam will thoroughly discuss your possible hair loss progression and will recommend the best course of treatment for you considering the future hair loss.
