PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP) FOR HAIR LOSS

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a completely natural hair loss treatment option for both men and women. PRP is concentrated blood plasma containing growth factors and other bioactive proteins that aid in wound healing and hair growth. When applied to your scalp, PRP maximises your chance of growing thicker, stronger strands of hair.

Performed by our experienced doctors and hair surgeons, PRP therapy is used extensively at Medihair to reverse hair thinning. Our experts have been performing PRP for many years, seeing great results from our patients which are usually most visible around 6 months of treatment.

How it Works

PRP therapy produces healthier follicles for better hair growth by using your own blood to extract growth factors. Within our blood we have red cells, white cells platelets and plasma. The platelets carry important growth factors to repair damage along with our plasma which carries water and nutrients.

For the procedure, a small amount of blood is taken and placed in a centrifuge machine. This process separates the white cells, red cells and the platelets. The platelets are then removed and injected into thinning areas of your scalp with a fine needle. This can take up to an hour and requires no downtime.

PRP Combined with Medication Therapy

Many patients who use medication therapy to prevent further hair loss also choose to have PRP therapy as a complementary treatment to achieve the best possible growth.

PRP therapy can be effectively used within a treatment program combining prescribed medication, growth-enhancing lotions, both designed to block Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), increase new blood flow, and encourage improved cellular activity of the follicles with growth factors. Some patients incorporate LED Therapy which is a strong bio-stimulating light to optimise results.

Our doctors can assess your suitability for medication therapy and issue you with a prescription if this is appropriate and fits with your individual circumstances.

PRP as a Natural Alternative

PRP is a completely safe, effective hair loss treatment and a natural alternative utilising your own blood to extract growth factors and stimulate your follicles. This is an excellent treatment for those who cannot tolerate prescribed medications or prefer not to.

PRP with Hair Transplantation

It can be used before a hair transplant to strengthen your existing hair roots and stabilise a healthy scalp in preparation of a new hair transplant procedure. Alternatively, PRP can be performed in conjunction with a hair transplant, and after a procedure to aid wound healing, help establish new root systems, and promote healthy new strands.
